26/02/18 Council urging public to stay safe and warm during wintry weather conditions

Beast from the East

Met Eireann has issued a yellow status weather warning forecasting exceptionally cold weather for this week. Air and ground temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees below normal, with significant wind chill and penetrating severe frosts. Snow showers, mainly affecting eastern areas on Tuesday, will progressively become more widespread and heavier through midweek, with significant and disruptive accumulations.

Donegal County Council is urging all road users to take extra care during this exceptionally cold spell and to keep up to date on road conditions by signing up for the Councils free alter service at www.mapalerter.com/donegal or by following us on @roadsdcc or @donegalcouncil on Twitter or on Facebook.  You can also check out the Winter Gritting Map on www.donegalcoco.ie for information on routes to be gritted and points for public sand and grit piles around the county.

We would also ask that you be mindful that older people or other vulnerable people living on their own may find it a very difficult to get about and do their day to day tasks.  Please keep in touch and make sure they are safe and warm.
